I started volunteering back in my college days when I was looking for something to do with my spare time on the weekends. My first volunteer work was with the Baptist Collegiate Ministries of which was led by Brother Tony Branham who started both the Armstrong Atlantic State University (known now as Georgia Southern Savannah) and College of Coastal Georgia. We conducted mission trips in both Alabama and South Carolina. I enjoyed helping out as I got to meet a lot of new people, talk with them, and even help build houses for them. I believe my first mission was in Tuscaloosa, AL where I assisted in the second year of cleanup and rebuilding after a major tornado went through the town the previous year. A lot of people were grateful for our help and we left a lasting impression.
My final volunteering experience was with the National Park Service at Fort Frederica National Monument, under Mary Beth Weather the Superintendent and Ted (Theodore) Johnson the Park Ranger over volunteers at the time, where I was a volunteer living history interpreter where I assisted in the customer service center along with dressing in time period clothing and participating in historical re-enactments.
